Prof. Ephraim (Eppie) Ya'ar


Ephraim (Eppie) Ya'ar is a Professor Emeritus of Sociology and Social Psychology. He currently serves as head of the Evens Program and International Program in Conflict Resolution and Mediation at Tel Aviv University. He has previously served as the Dean of the Social Sciences Faculty and Head of the Tami Steinmetz Center for Peace Research. In 1997, he received the first ever Fulbright-Yitzhak Rabin Award for his research achievements in the fields of peace and democracy. Since 1994 he directs the Peace Index Project, alongside Prof. Tamar Herman, in the framework of the Evens Program at Tel Aviv University and the Israel Democracy Institute.

Prof. Ya'ar's primary research topics include Israeli society, the Arab-Israeli conflict, cross-cultural comparative research, socioeconomic mobility, and organizational sociology.

Prof. Ya'ar received his BA and MA degrees with honors from the Hebrew University, and graduated summa cum laude with a PhD from the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor.
